Breaking barriers: women shaping the future of rail
The rail industry is undergoing a transformation—toward smarter, greener, and more connected mobility. But to truly innovate, the sector must also evolve in terms of representation. At Egis, we believe that women have a vital role to play in shaping the future of rail, and we are committed to creating the conditions that allow them to thrive.
Despite progress, women remain underrepresented in many areas of the rail sector, from engineering and operations to leadership roles. This imbalance is not due to a lack of talent, but to persistent barriers: outdated stereotypes, limited visibility of female role models, and unequal access to opportunities.
To address this, Egis is taking action. We support initiatives that promote gender equality in transport, including partnerships with organisations like “Elles bougent,” which encourages young women to pursue careers in engineering. Internally, we are working to ensure that our recruitment, training, and promotion practices are inclusive and equitable.
We also believe in the power of visibility. By highlighting the achievements of women already making an impact in rail—whether in project management, systems design, or field operations—we aim to inspire the next generation and shift perceptions of what leadership in this sector looks like.
Creating a more inclusive rail industry is not just a matter of fairness—it’s a driver of innovation. Diverse teams bring broader perspectives, challenge assumptions, and design solutions that better serve all users. At Egis, we are proud to support women who are breaking barriers and building the future of rail.
