About the Role

The Telecommunication Engineer represents the interest of the owner/operator by providing all the necessary expertise required for the definition, integration and validation of Telecommunication and Network sub-system related to the mainline extension and the new OMSF. When necessary, the person will also liaise with the Design-Builder (DB) and the operator/ maintainer (ETS) on all aspects pertaining to Telecommunication and Network sub-system and ensure the compliance of the project with client’s objectives and requirements.

  • Support the owner/operator teams to elicit project requirements, identify technical risks and define the project scope.
  • Support owner’s team for all Telecommunication and Network sub-system related issues or decisions.
  • Collaborate with the project’s different teams and stakeholders to successfully mitigate issues and achieve smooth execution.
  • Work with Egis’ back office experts.
  • Develop project charters in collaboration with the City and the Operator.
  • Represent and support the owner/operator on all technical matters pertinent to Telecommunication and Network sub-system disciplines (Ethernet, Optical Fiber, WiFi, Radio, CCTV, PA, Telephone, PoE, Powered Fiber, NTP, GPS, VoIP, IP-MPLS, etc.).
  • Coordinate with the back-office.
  • Implement the customer Requirement Specification.
  • Ensure integration of Telecommunication and Network sub-system is achieved: with civil engineering and with the existing line.
  • Respond to information requests from DB on behalf of the owner.
  • Perform design reviews and monitor the DB to ensure adherence to standards, specifications, processes and best practices.
  • Perform construction/installation audits of the DB to ensure progress in safely manner & in accordance with design specifications and contractual obligations.
  • Provide technical assurance, recommendations and strategic advices to the owner throughout the project.
  • Support the development and application of the testing & commissioning.

What do we need from you

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in Electrical or Computer Engineering, focused on Telecommunication.
  • Professional Engineer status with APEGA or possibility to obtain.
  • General overall experience (15+) years with at least 6+ years of experience in the Telecommunication.
  • Experience in Rail & Transit projects is a plus.
  • Experience with Edmonton’s operator ETS is a plus. 
  • Knowledge of railway communication and network (Ethernet, Optical Fiber, WiFi, Radio, CCTV, PA, Telephone, PoE, Powered Fiber, NTP, GPS, VoIP, IP-MPLS, etc.) is a strong asset.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Fluency in English is mandatory. French will be valued.
