As a result of our continued success and growth in the UK, we are seeking an experienced and dynamic Technical Director in the field of Civil Engineering to join our Nuclear UK branch in Bristol to help support our rapidly expanding workload and our strategy on the transfer of competence/expertise from the headquarters in France to the UK.
As the Technical Director for the UK branch, you will provide technical expertise and support for ongoing EPR design projects, in particular Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C. You will represent Egis at industry event such as technical conferences and seminars in the UK and internationally, and coordinate with the Technical Directorate in France to ensure overall consistency in sharing experiences, tools, skills, and technical expertise.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as a technical expert for ongoing EPR design projects, providing technical support and guidance.
- Represent Egis at conferences and technical seminars in the UK, sharing the company's knowledge and experiences.
- Coordinate with the Technical Directorate in France to ensure overall consistency in sharing experiences, tools, skills, and technical expertise.
- Collaborate with other Egis subsidiaries in the UK in the field of Civil Engineering to exchange best practices and promote cooperation.
- Mentor new arrivals in the agency, sharing your knowledge and expertise.
- Conduct internal technical seminars to enhance the skills of the team.
- Assist the sales team and head of the UK branch in seeking new projects, new clients in the UK.
- Promote Egis' technical expertise in the market and to potential clients in the UK.
- Develop a skills development plan for the UK team.
- Maintain relationships with institutes and technical associations such as the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) in the UK.
- Ability to propose innovative solutions using data and Building Information Modeling (BIM) technologies to improve design and construction processes.
- Stay updated with industry advancements, new technologies, and best practices in nuclear structural engineering
With a background of working within the nuclear industry or another highly heavy industry sector, you’ll have an established career in Civil Structural Engineering, with a Master in Civil engineering or equivalent relevant subject. In addition, you will also have the following:
- A strong academic background with a Higher education degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Proven experience of acting as technical director/technical expert in Nuclear Civil Engineering
- Significant experience in the field of Nuclear Civil Engineering ideally in the UK, including on EPR design projects.
- Excellent technical expertise in Civil Engineering, with in-depth knowledge of current standards and practices.
- Proven experience representing companies at conferences and technical seminars.
- Excellent coordination and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with multicultural and multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent report writing skills with the ability to self-check and produce accurate work.
- Ability to share knowledge, mentor, and train team members.
- Project management – experience and understanding of the needs and approaches to the engineering consultancy and design markets, including relationships with clients, work planning and commercial management.
- Good knowledge of the UK Nuclear market.
- Experience in assisting the sales team in identifying new projects outside of EPR projects.
- Strong ability to promote technical expertise to markets and potential clients in the UK.
- Ability to propose innovative solutions, leveraging data and BIM technologies.
- Strong relationships with institutes and technical associations such as ICE and ONR in the UK.
- A willingness to travel on short assignments both within the UK and overseas.
- ICE chartered status.
- Fluent English language skills, both written and verbal.
