About the Role

Egis is seeking an experienced Systems Integration Manager to lead the delivery of systems engineering, systems integration, systems assurance, and safety assurance activities across major rail and transportation programmes.

The successful candidate will provide both technical and people leadership, managing a team of Systems Engineers, Systems Integration Engineers and Safety Assurance specialists while ensuring the successful delivery of projects throughout the systems engineering lifecycle.

The role will be responsible for establishing systems engineering best practice, ensuring safe and integrated solutions are delivered, and supporting the growth and development of Egis' Systems Integration capability within the UK and internationally.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & People Management

  • Lead, develop and manage a team of Systems Engineers, Systems Integration Engineers and Safety Assurance professionals.
  • Act as the line manager for assigned team members, undertaking resource management, performance management, career development planning and objective setting.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring and technical guidance to support professional growth and succession planning.
  • Manage team resource allocation and capacity planning across projects to ensure effective utilisation and delivery.
  • Support staff in achieving professional accreditation, including Chartered Engineer status and other relevant industry recognitions.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive and high-performing team culture aligned with Egis values.
  • Identify capability gaps and lead initiatives to strengthen technical competence within the Systems Integration function.
  • Support recruitment activities, including interviewing, onboarding and growing the Systems Integration team.

Systems Engineering & Integration

  • Lead the application of systems Integration principles across the full project lifecycle.
  • Develop and implement systems integration strategies across multidisciplinary rail and transportation projects.
  • Manage complex technical interfaces between signalling, telecommunications, rolling stock, power, stations, track, operational and maintenance systems.
  • Ensure requirements are captured, allocated, managed and traced using recognised systems Integration methodologies.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver integrated and compliant solutions.
  • Lead systems architecture development, interface management and operational concept activities.
  • Facilitate technical workshops, design reviews and integration forums with clients and project stakeholders.
  • Review and approve systems engineering and integration deliverables.

Safety Assurance

  • Lead the delivery of safety assurance activities across projects and programmes.
  • Establish and maintain Safety Assurance Plans, Safety Cases and Hazard Management processes.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations and standards, including CDM, CSM-RA, RIR and interoperability requirements.
  • Lead hazard identification and risk assessment activities, including HAZID, HAZOP and safety workshops.
  • Manage interfaces with Independent Safety Assessors (ISA), Assessment Bodies (AsBo), NoBo and DeBo organisations.
  • Ensure safety requirements are effectively translated into design, testing, commissioning and operational readiness activities.
  • Promote a strong safety culture across project teams and within the Systems Integration function.

Systems Assurance & Verification

  • Lead systems assurance activities to demonstrate compliance with client, regulatory and project requirements.
  • Manage requirements verification and validation (V&V) activities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Coordinate testing, commissioning and assurance programmes to demonstrate system performance and compliance.
  • Ensure assurance evidence is collated and maintained to support project approvals and authorisation.
  • Implement best-practice assurance processes and continuous improvement initiatives across projects.

Client & Business Leadership

  • Act as a trusted technical advisor to clients and project stakeholders.
  • Support business development, bid preparation and proposal activities.
  • Identify opportunities to grow Egis' Systems Integration and Safety Assurance services.
  • Support project directors and discipline leads in developing delivery strategies and technical solutions.
  • Represent Egis at client meetings, industry working groups and professional forums.
  • Contribute to the development of standards, methodologies and technical excellence initiatives across the business

What do we need from you

Essential

  • Degree qualified in Systems Engineering, Railway Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience in Systems Engineering, Systems Integration and Safety Assurance within the rail industry.
  • Experience leading and managing engineering teams within a consultancy, contractor or client organisation.
  • Strong understanding of railway systems and multidisciplinary engineering integration.
  • Extensive knowledge of:

  • Excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills.

Desirable

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.
  • Experience delivering projects for HS2, Network Rail, TfL, metro, light rail or international rail programmes.
  • Experience using requirements management tools such as DOORS or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams across large infrastructure projects.
