Our expertise extends to depots, operations, maintenance analytics and asset management across all aspects of rail, including transport, technical and sustainability assessments and systems infrastructure.

About the Role

We are seeking a hands‑on Telecom Engineer to join our growing team on a Light Rail Transit (LRT) project. You will play a key role in the design, coordination, integration, and site support of telecommunications systems, ensuring designs are robust, interfaces are well managed, and Testing & Commissioning (T&C) activities are successfully delivered.

This is a technical, delivery‑focused role, ideal for an engineer who enjoys detailed system design while contributing to real‑world site implementation, particularly during integration and commissioning phases.

Responsibilities:

Telecom Design & Systems Engineering

  • Develop, review, and coordinate telecommunications system designs for LRT projects, ensuring compliance with requirements, standards, and operational needs.
  • Produce and review technical documentation including design reports, specifications, drawings, interface control documents (ICDs), and test documentation.
  • Support requirements management activities, including traceability, verification, and validation.
  • Contribute to system architecture, integration planning, and configuration management activities related to telecom systems.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide technical input to resolve design and integration issues.

Interface Management

  • Manage interfaces between Telecom systems and other rail systems, including Signalling, SCADA, Rolling Stock, Power, Track, Depot Equipment, and OCC systems.
  • Identify, document, and resolve telecom‑related interface issues across disciplines.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, contractors, and design teams to ensure consistent technical alignment and interface closure.

Testing & Commissioning Support

  • Provide on‑site technical support during Testing & Commissioning phases, including test readiness reviews and development of test procedures.
  • Support factory acceptance tests (FAT), site acceptance tests (SAT), integration testing, and dynamic testing activities.
  • Troubleshoot telecom system issues during testing and support final system acceptance and handover.
  • Liaise with client, contractor, and integrator teams to resolve telecom‑related issues arising during field activities.

Collaboration & Coordination

  • Work closely with systems engineers, integrators, design consultants, project managers, and subcontractors.
  • Attend coordination and technical meetings, representing the telecom discipline in design, integration, and T&C discussions.

What do we need from you

Essential

  • Degree qualified in Telecommunications, Electrical, Systems, or Railway Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5–8 years of relevant experience in rail or transport telecommunications systems.
  • Hands on experience with one or more of the following telecom systems:
  • Transmission (fibre, copper, IP networks)
  • Radio systems (TETRA, LTE, GSM R, or equivalent)
  • CCTV, PA, PIS, clocks, telephony
  • OCC / depot telecom systems
  • Demonstrated experience in interface management and system integration.
  • Experience supporting Testing & Commissioning activities on live or near live projects.
  • Good understanding of systems engineering principles (requirements, V&V, integration).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable

  • Previous experience on Light Rail or Metro projects.
  • Familiarity with UK railway standards and regulations.
  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards it (e.g. CEng with IET).
  • Knowledge of safety‑critical systems, RAMS processes, and cybersecurity considerations for telecom networks.
