About the Role

We are seeking a hands-on Senior Systems Engineer to join our growing team on a Light Rail Transit (LRT) project. You will play a key role in the design, coordination, integration, and site support of critical rail systems, ensuring that designs are robust, interfaces are well managed, and commissioning activities are successfully delivered.

This is a technical leadership role, ideal for someone who enjoys detailed design work while contributing to real-world site implementation, especially during Testing & Commissioning (T&C) phases.

Duties & Responsibilities

Design & Systems Engineering

  • Lead the development and review of multi-disciplinary system designs, ensuring compliance with requirements, standards, and operational needs.
  • Prepare and review technical documentation, interface control documents, design reports, and specifications.
  • Support requirements management activities (traceability, verification, validation).
  • Participate in system architecture, integration planning, and configuration management.
  • Conduct design reviews and provide technical guidance to junior engineers.

Interface Management

  • Actively manage interfaces between rail systems: Signalling, SCADA, Telecoms, Rolling Stock, Track, Power, Depot Equipment, etc.
  • Identify, document, and resolve technical interface issues across disciplines.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and contractors’ teams to ensure consistent technical alignment.

Testing & Commissioning Support

  • Provide on-site technical support during T&C phases, including test readiness reviews, test procedure development, on-site testing and troubleshooting.
  • Support integration testing, including dynamic testing and final system acceptance and handover.
  • Liaise with client and contractor teams during field activities to resolve emerging system-level issues.

Collaboration & Coordination

  • Work closely with systems integrators, design consultants, project managers, and subcontractors.
  • Attend coordination meetings and represent the systems team in design and T&C discussions.
  • Support RAMS, safety assurance, and cybersecurity efforts by providing engineering input.

What do we need from you

Essential:

  • Degree qualified in Electrical, Systems, or Railway Engineering or a related field.
  • Extensive experience of relevant experience in rail systems design and integration.
  • Hands-on experience with one or more of the following: Signalling, Communications, SCADA, Electrification, Rolling Stock interfaces, or Depot Systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in interface management and system-level design coordination.
  • Experience supporting T&C activities on live projects.
  • Good understanding of systems engineering principles (V&V, RE, Integration).
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience on Light Rail or Metro projects.
  • Familiarity with UK railway standards and regulations.
