Job Summary:

We are looking for a Senior Planning Engineer to join our Light Rail Team based in Birmingham team to play an integral role in the development of our delivery capability.

You will be responsible for developing and maintaining robust control of the planning schedule. This includes providing active support the project and programme teams in all planning and reporting activities. This role would suit a collaborative individual with great leadership and communication skills who enjoys multi-tasking, loves a busy working environment and thrives under pressure.


About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Planning Engineer to join our on-site team for a residential construction project in Cairo, Egypt. In this hands-on role, you will own the project schedule, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with project milestones and delivery objectives. As the Planning Engineer on-site, you will drive planning excellence through collaborative coordination with construction teams, innovative scheduling methodologies, and a commitment to delivering realistic, achievable schedules that support project completion. Your analytical mindset and organized approach will be instrumental in managing construction interdependencies, coordinating with trades and subcontractors, and forecasting critical resources to keep the residential project on track.

  • Develop and maintain accurate project schedule information for all residential construction phases, ensuring timely updates and transparent communication with site management, contractors, and stakeholders
  • Create comprehensive scope definitions and work breakdown structures (WBS) for residential project delivery, capturing key construction assumptions, phasing requirements, and incorporating lessons learned from similar projects
  • Establish and control schedule baselines for the residential project, ensuring they are realistic, achievable, and aligned with project completion targets and client objectives
  • Collaborate closely with site management and Project Controls teams to ensure integrated consistency between schedule, budget, and resource allocation
  • Manage and maintain the framework for schedule interdependencies across construction trades, subcontractors, and project phases, identifying and resolving conflicts proactively to prevent delays
  • Develop and implement forecasting frameworks for critical resource requirements (labor, materials, equipment), enabling early identification and mitigation of potential bottlenecks on-site
  • Lead the development and continuous improvement of planning processes and procedures specific to the residential project, enhancing on-site efficiency and coordination
  • Interface effectively with site teams, subcontractors, and project stakeholders, providing clear guidance and support to ensure schedule compliance and milestone achievement
  • Analyze schedule performance data and provide actionable insights to support decision-making and proactive project adjustments
  • Support and mentor junior planning team members on-site, fostering a culture of planning excellence and continuous learning

What do we need from you

Required Skills and Tools:

  • Expert-level proficiency in Primavera (P6) and Microsoft Project
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to coordinate effectively across multiple teams and organizational levels

Required Experience:

  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in planning engineering, project controls, or related field
  • Demonstrated experience developing and managing schedule baselines at multiple organizational levels
  • Proven track record managing complex project, program, and portfolio interdependencies
  • Documented experience with resource forecasting, capacity planning, and process improvement
  • Experience integrating schedule, budget, and risk management frameworks

Education and Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Professional certifications such as PMP, PRINCE2, or PMI-CP
  • Preference for candidates located near or willing to relocate to the New Administrative Capital, Egypt
