About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Planner to join our Rail Division working on major UK Rail projects including HS2 and Network Rail.

You will report to the Head of Planning or Project Controls Manager; the role will be responsible for developing and maintaining robust control of the programme. This includes providing active support to the project and programme team in all planning and reporting activities. This role would suit a collaborative individual with great leadership and communication skills who enjoys multi-tasking, loves a busy working environment and thrives under pressure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop the scope and work breakdown structure for the different parts of the delivery programme, including the capture of key assumptions.
  • Provide detailed support and assistance to the project team(s) to enable them to monitor pinch-points, the critical path and capture change.
  • Work closely with the Project Controls / Planning team to ensure that the programme, budget and risk baselines are consistent and integrated.
  • Produce programmes, reports and / or extract filters as required by the project team, including indication of deviation from the baseline programme.
  • Liaise with the project team(s) to ensure deliverables are managed and tracked regularly on the programme including the impact on procurement and construction.
  • Align the technical and construction Assurance processes to the programme and track and control deliverables.
  • Implement Earned Value Analysis (EVA) by integrating cost and programme parameters.
  • Coordinate with the commercial team and align on the Key Performance Indicators including SPI and CPI. Provide critical analysis when deviation from the baseline occurs.
  • Able to manage and chair a programme workshop to review time impact assessments with the wider team and propose mitigation measures.
  • Able to integrate the Tender Event Schedule with the programme and implement logic reflecting procurement relationship with design and construction. Track long lead items from the programme including any impact to the budget, Target Price and installation.
  • To improve upon the baseline programme and/or to mitigate potential delays.
  • Formally issue programme updates to the customer as required by the contract.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Process optimisation: Project Controls is at its core about providing the right information at the right time to the right people.  This can often involve the coordination of a range of separate processes and interfacing with differing departments (eg finance / commercial).  You will be able to identify process optimisation to improve the delivery of the project controls role either through establishment of digital solutions or simple clear accountable reporting cadence.
  • Innovation: Ensure Egis is a leader in the development and implementation of new tools and systems to ensure high performing project delivery. Build strong relationships with functional experts across Egis Group to share best practice and implement on UK Transportation projects.
  • Technical specialist: You will be able to train and develop other members of the team and be recognised for your technical knowledge.
  • Integration: You will have an appreciation of other Project Management and Project Controls professions; how to manage the relevant experts in each profession and where and how the differing systems can and best integrate – e.g. Primavera and BIM
  • Team Management: Ability to lead and mentor a small team of project controls staff, providing guidance, support and performance management.  Ensure your team all have annual objectives and personal development plans to help them succeed in their role.
  • Work Winning: Act as a bid support for Transportation tenders and ensure that Egis’ Tender Unit has sufficient suitably skilled project controls support for all tenders.
  • Client engagement: Cultivate and maintain strong client relationships, understanding their needs and objectives to deliver tailored solutions that exceed expectations.
