Egis Transport Solutions, a business unit of the Egis Group, brings together all of the necessary expertise for guided urban transport and heavy rail: systems, automation, rolling stock, safety, equipment, civil engineering and the environment.

Working in the Anthro design office, London, 2-3 days week, and attending site meetings once a week at Old Oak Common.


About the Role

Job Purpose

To lead the builders work in connection (BWIC) team at HS2 Old Oak Common Station for work package 23 design and build of MEPHFC works. This will be for Anthro Joint Venture (VVB Engineering and Egis).

You will be the lead engineer managing the BWIC team and coordinating with our MEPHFC designers, client BBVS, and third-party work packages.

This will include:

  • Coordination and agreement of building services opening positions with our CREs/Lead Engineers, and third parties
  • Agreement of BWIC with respect to fire stopping solution, led by our Fire Engineer
  • Management of a coordinated federated model, with evidence of clash detection resolution, with respect to BWIC
  • Structural review of design and third-party proprietary systems, including; reinforced concrete, precast concrete, steelwork, blockwork, etc.
  • Facilitate and manage meetings with the Client and Principal Designer to escalate issues, evidence coordination and record actions
  • Support and mentor junior members of the team

 

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Act as the nominated Contractor’s Responsible Engineer Design (CRE-D) for Civil / Structural Engineering design in compliance with NR-L2-RSE-02009 (Engineering Management for Projects)
  • Lead and prepare design in accordance with HS2, Eurocodes, and NR-L2-CIV-003 (Engineering and Architectural Assurance of Building and Civil Engineering Works)
  • Review and manage civil / structural engineering design drawings, calculations, reports, and supporting documentation to HS2 / Network Rail standards / Building regulations
  • Coordinate and manage engineering activities so that they result in civil / structural schemes that are affordable and meet programme requirements in a safe and environmentally responsible manner for time, cost and quality
  • Coordinate with a multi-disciplinary to ensure that civil / structural design deliverables meet HS2 / Network Rail standards / building regulations
  • Manage resources, junior engineers and CAD technicians, to complete the deliverables
  • Monitor specific projects so that they are engineered to the standards and specification of the client, allocated design and construction contracts include reference to and are compliant with appropriate standards, formal specifications and procedures
  • Implement systems and procedures to maintain a cost effective, high quality, safe and environmentally responsible approach to design, construction, commissioning and other technical activities on relevant projects, compliant with all relevant legislation. Liaise with regulators and others as appropriate
  • Support the CEM in the preparation of quantified and qualitative risk assessment and Common Safety Method HAZID/HAZOP analysis to allocated projects and support the environmental aspects of allocated projects in accordance with environmental policy
  • Ensure compliance of engineering deliverables to Health and safety legislation, Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 and NR/L2/OHS/0047
  • Ensure compliance of engineering deliverables to the Common Safety Method for Risk Evaluation and Assessment (Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 402/2013 (CSM-REA) and support with the operational requirements as specified in NR/L2/RSE/100/02, including preparation of Preliminary System Definition, Significance Test, System Definition, Safety Plan, HAZID/OP workshops, Hazard Record and Safety Justification Reports
  • Ensure compliance of engineering deliverables to the Railways (Interoperability) Regulations 2011 (RIR) to obtain an authorisation under the RIR in NR/L2/RSE/100/03. Including compliance to the National Technical Specification Notices (NTSNs)
  • Identify and share best practice across the various project teams
  • To support growth of the Egis team, recruitment of technical and staff and manage the mentoring of junior engineers

 

On projects will report to Project Directors and/or Design Leads, depending on project size / workload.

This role may also include working on projects internationally for EGIS Transport Solutions or other EGIS subsidiaries.


What do we need from you

Essential:

  • Structural coordination of building services and associated proprietary systems
  • Experience of working in design and build projects
  • Ability to communicate effectively to deliver on time to programme
  • Lead engineer / CRE-D experience
  • Professional Engineer Registration status with the Engineering Council (UK) and be registered with an appropriate professional institution
  • Technical qualifications to degree in relevant subject BEng/MEng
  • Project and team-running experience in UK consultancy, client, or contractor organisation
  • Excellent understanding to Eurocode, HS2, Network Rail and associated rail standards, and related regulations (CDM, CSM, RIR)
  • Excellent relationship management skills with the ability to engage, negotiate and manage key stakeholders and suppliers
  • Excellent engineering, analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • CITB CSCS scheme
  • Valid driving licence
