About Us

Egis is a leading global architectural, consulting, construction engineering, operations and maintenance services firm. We create and operate intelligent infrastructure and buildings that both respond to the climate emergency and contribute to balanced, sustainable and resilient development.

Our 20,500 employees operate across over 100 countries, deploying their expertise to develop and deliver cutting-edge innovations and solutions for clients. From motorways to tramways, water and wastewater treatment to smart cities, clients choose us to help them solve their most complex challenges and to deliver climate responsible growth that meets the needs of communities, industry and the planet.

About Egis in Ireland

Egis has operated in Ireland since 1994 and is one of the largest multi-disciplinary consultancy, engineering and operations firms in the country.  Our services in Ireland span the full lifespan of infrastructure, from upstream feasibility studies through design, construction supervision, delivery and operations. Operating across the entire value chain of consulting, design and operation, Egis is the only group to understand infrastructure in its entirety. Our current activities in Ireland include operating the Dublin Tunnel and the Jack Lynch Tunnel in Cork, overseeing 470km of Ireland’s motorways and working on the design and delivery of major transport projects and mobility services.

With over 600 staff in Ireland across 16 offices nationwide, we are committed to enabling sustainable economic development and responding to the requirements of population growth while addressing climate change and reducing carbon emissions. In 2023 Egis acquired JB Barry & Partners, an engineering firm which has worked on major projects such as the Ringsend Wastewater Treatment Plant in Dublin and the N17/N18 Gort to Tuam PPP motorway scheme in Galway. The Egis engineering division is now almost 200 people strong across four offices in Dublin, Castlebar, Cork and Limerick.

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated Senior Design Engineer to join our transportation team and contribute to the successful delivery of roads and active travel infrastructure projects across a range of scales and complexity.

This role is suited to an engineer with 7+ years’ experience in civil engineering design who is confident delivering projects through multiple phases and is ready to take ownership of technical workstreams with a high degree of autonomy. The successful candidate will play a key role in leading design activities on active travel projects, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and supporting the delivery of high-quality, sustainable transport solutions.

You will work closely with Project Managers and Project Directors while developing your own leadership capability, supporting junior staff, and contributing to collaborative project environments. We support flexible career development, whether you wish to progress as a technical specialist, move toward project management, or develop a blend of both pathways.

This is an excellent opportunity to work on meaningful transportation projects within a supportive and collaborative consultancy that values professional growth, initiative, and continuous learning.

  1. Key Responsibilities
  • Lead design packages and coordinate technical delivery across active travel and roads projects.
  • Support the delivery of projects through feasibility, concept, preliminary, and detailed design phases.
  • Take ownership of technical outputs, demonstrating initiative and the ability to work with autonomy.
  • Collaborate closely with CAD and BIM teams to ensure coordinated, high-quality design deliverables.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to graduate and junior engineers.
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary coordination and stakeholder engagement as part of project delivery.
  • Apply sound engineering judgement and problem-solving skills to address complex design challenges.
  • Support Project Managers and Project Directors in programme management, technical reviews, and delivery planning.
  • Promote sustainable design principles aligned with active travel and integrated transport objectives.

What do we need from you

  • Minimum 7+ years’ experience working on civil engineering projects, with a focus on roads and/or active travel infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering projects across multiple design and project lifecycle phases.
  • Ability to take ownership of workstreams and operate effectively with limited supervision.
  • Experience leading elements of design delivery within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong collaboration skills, including experience working with CAD and BIM technicians.
  • Experience mentoring or supporting junior engineers.
  • Chartered Engineer status preferred (or actively progressing toward chartership).
  • Strong problem-solving ability, communication skills, and a proactive attitude.
  • Interest in progressing toward Project Manager responsibilities considered advantageous but not essential.
  • Familiarity with Irish transportation and active travel design standards and guidance desirable.

What's in it for you?

  • Opportunity to lead design on impactful active travel and transportation projects.
  • Supportive environment with clear pathways for technical and project management progression.
  • Mentorship and assistance for engineers aspiring to move toward Project Manager roles.
  • Exposure to multidisciplinary and high-profile infrastructure programmes.
  • A collaborative, people-focused culture with strong technical support.
  • Hybrid and flexible working arrangements.
  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Ongoing CPD, chartership, and professional development support.
