Egis is a global consulting and engineering firm working in construction, transport and mobility services. Joining our Group and its 23,500 employees means, above all, sharing our values as a people-first company, strongly committed to sustainability and innovation.
In the UK, we are delivering some of the most iconic projects which help connect people, protect our environment and meet emission reduction targets. We work in the transport and energy sectors, providing consultancy, engineering and operations services for clients such as major airports, governments, regulators, cities and rail and road operators.
With over 50 years of experience in the rail industry, we’ve delivered complex and challenging multidisciplinary projects all over the world. Our expertise extends to depots, operations, maintenance analytics and asset management across all aspects of rail, including transport, technical and sustainability assessments and systems infrastructure.
We are seeking an experienced Earthing & Bonding (E&B) Engineer to join our team on a Light Rail Transit (LRT) project. You will play a key role in the design, coordination, and assurance of traction power earthing and bonding systems, ensuring compliance with safety standards and successful integration across all railway systems.
This is a technical, delivery-focused role suited to an engineer with strong experience in electrical safety, stray current mitigation, and system integration, with involvement across design, site activities, and Testing & Commissioning phases.
Responsibilities:
E&B Design & Systems Engineering
- Produce detailed Earthing & Bonding (E&B) designs for traction power substations and route-wide systems.
- Develop technical reports, calculations, and safety documentation to support design justification and client handover.
- Review and approve technical drawings, material specifications, and installation methodologies.
- Perform electrical modelling and calculations using industry-standard tools (e.g. CDEGS).
- Ensure designs comply with relevant standards, including EN 50122-1 and EN 50122-2.
Stray Current & Electrical Safety
- Develop and implement stray current mitigation strategies in accordance with EN 50122-2.
- Ensure all designs mitigate risks associated with touch and step voltages in line with EN 50122-1.
- Support safety assurance activities, including hazard identification, risk mitigation, and compliance demonstration.
Interface Management
- Coordinate with Track, Civil, Traction Power, Signalling, Telecoms, and Urban Realm disciplines to ensure full system integration.
- Manage interfaces between E&B systems and external stakeholders, including utility providers (water, gas, telecoms).
- Assess and mitigate risks related to electrical interference on third-party assets
Testing & Commissioning Support
- Conduct site-based testing including soil resistivity surveys and Fall of Potential (FoP) testing.
- Support continuity, resistance, and earthing verification testing.
- Provide technical support during Testing & Commissioning, including issue resolution and system validation.
Technical Advisory & Coordination
- Act as a key technical point of contact for clients and stakeholders on E&B matters.
- Present technical solutions and design updates at project and client meetings.
- Support coordination across design, construction, and commissioning phases to ensure safe and compliant delivery.
Collaboration & Coordination
- Work closely with systems engineers, integrators, design consultants, project managers, and subcontractors.
- Attend coordination and technical meetings, representing the telecom discipline in design, integration, and T&C discussions.
Provide engineering input to RAMS, safety assurance, cybersecurity, and operational readiness activities as they relate to telecom systems.
Essential
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
- Proven experience in Earthing & Bonding design within rail, LRT, or infrastructure projects
- Strong knowledge of EN 50122-1 (Electrical safety, touch/step voltage) & EN 50122-2 (Stray current mitigation)
- Experience with electrical modelling tools (e.g. CDEGS or equivalent).
- Experience in interface coordination and multidisciplinary design environments.
- Experience supporting Testing & Commissioning activities.
- Strong communication and technical reporting skills.
Desirable
- Previous experience on Light Rail or Metro projects.
- Familiarity with UK railway standards and regulations.
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards it (e.g. CEng with IET).
- Knowledge of safety‑critical systems, RAMS processes, and cybersecurity considerations for telecom networks.
