Key Responsibilities
- Design & Modeling: Designing stormwater networks, culverts, highway drainage, and Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SuDS).
- Hydraulic Analysis: Using software to simulate water flow and predict performance, such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SewerGEMS, and InfoWorks ICM.
- Flood Risk Assessment: Conducting hydrologic studies to determine flood risks, watershed analysis, and developing mitigation plans.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring designs meet local environmental regulations, water authority guidelines, and codes of practice.
- Project Management & Coordination: Preparing technical reports, cost estimates, tender documents, and collaborating with architects and contractors.
- Site Inspections: Visiting construction sites to inspect installation, verify compliance with specifications, and troubleshoot issues.
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or Water Resources Engineering.
- Software Proficiency: AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, GIS (ArcGIS/QGIS), and specialist drainage modeling tools (e.g., MicroDrainage/WinDes).
- Technical Knowledge: Sound understanding of hydraulics, fluid mechanics, hydrology, and soil mechanics.
- Certification: Professional Engineer (PE) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) status is often required for senior roles.
- Soft Skills: Strong communication skills to liaise with clients/planners, analytical thinking, and attention to detail.
