A Quantity Surveyor Lead plays a crucial role in the construction and project management industry by overseeing and managing the quantity surveying activities within a project or organization. This role requires a combination of technical expertise, project management skills, and leadership abilities to ensure accurate cost estimation, budget management, and overall financial control throughout the project lifecycle.
- Project Cost Estimation:
- Conduct detailed cost estimation for construction projects, considering materials, labor, equipment, and overhead costs.
- Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to gather accurate and up-to-date cost data.
- Budget Management:
- Develop and manage project budgets, ensuring alignment with client expectations and project requirements.
- Monitor and control project costs, identifying and addressing potential budget overruns.
- Quantity Surveying:
- Prepare and analyze bills of quantities (BOQs) to support accurate cost estimation.
- Evaluate and negotiate variations in quantities, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations.
- Contract Administration:
- Assist in the preparation and review of contracts, ensuring clarity on cost-related terms and conditions.
- Collaborate with legal and procurement teams to address contractual issues and disputes.
- Risk Management:
- Identify potential risks related to project costs and provide proactive recommendations for mitigation.
- Conduct risk assessments and work towards minimizing financial and contractual risks.
- Team Leadership:
- Lead and mentor a team of quantity surveyors, providing guidance and support in their day-to-day activities.
- Foster a collaborative and positive work environment to enhance team productivity and effectiveness.
- Client Communication:
- Engage with clients to understand their expectations, communicate project cost status, and address any concerns.
- Provide regular updates on cost-related matters and ensure client satisfaction.
- Quality Assurance:
- Implement and maintain quality control measures to ensure accuracy and reliability in quantity surveying outputs.
- Conduct regular reviews of cost-related documentation to identify and rectify errors.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and new technologies in quantity surveying.
- Implement process improvements and contribute to the development of standardized procedures.
EDUCATION LEVEL
- Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
EXPERIENCE
- Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor, with a track record of successful project cost management.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in relevant software tools.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Leadership experience and the ability to manage and motivate a team.
- Knowledge of relevant construction laws, regulations, and industry standards.
