About Us

Egis is an international company active in the consulting, construction engineering and mobility service sectors that design and operate intelligent infrastructure and buildings. Egis operates in 100 countries and has 19,500 employees.

About the Role

As an accomplished Process Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the hydraulic design, analysis, and surge (water hammer) studies for Pumping Stations, including Fire Water and Potable Water systems, for industrial and infrastructure projects, ensuring compliance with international standards and UAE / KSA local authority regulations.

It is expected to stay updated on industry trends, new technologies, and best practices, and to be proficient in hydraulic modelling and transient (surge) analysis software. The minimum experience of 10+ years is preferred in the relevant field.

Design & Analysis:

  1. In-depth knowledge of hydraulic system design principles and requirements with respect to international codes and standards.
  2. Perform hydraulic modelling and analysis for Pumping Stations — Fire Water and Potable Water — using hydraulic simulation software, including steady-state and transient (surge/water hammer) analysis for large-scale pumping mains and rising mains.
  3. Carry out surge analysis to identify pipeline overpressure, negative pressure, column separation, check valve slam and air valve issues, and design appropriate surge mitigation measures (surge vessels, air valves, soft start/stop, VSDs, surge relief valves, etc.).
  4. Prepare pump selection and sizing, pump curve analysis (duty/assist/standby), system curve development, and pump head/NPSH calculations for pumping station design.
  5. Prepare pipe sizing, hydraulic pressure drop calculations, and flow velocity checks for pumping mains, fire water networks and potable water distribution networks.
  6. Preparation and review of Process documents such as P&IDs, hydraulic calculation reports, line schedules, equipment lists, and pump datasheets.
  7. Support preparation of piping and equipment layouts for pumping stations and coordinate with the plot planning team on safety distances and space requirements.
  8. Well-conversant with Potable and Fire Water Pumping Station design, including storage/break tanks, surge vessels, valves and associated equipment.
  9. Perform Design and Engineering of facilities within a specified time while adhering to maintenance, safety and quality standards, taking constructability, economics and operability into account at different project stages.
  10. In-depth knowledge of applicable codes and standards including AWWA, NWC, NFPA, Hydraulic Institute (HI) standards, ASME (B31.1, B31.3, B31.9), API, and BS/EN, as relevant to hydraulics and pumping systems.
  11. Well-versed with UAE local authority regulations (DEWA, ADDC, Dubai Municipality, Civil Defense) and KSA local regulations (SBC).
  12. Experience working on EPC projects, including preparation of MR, TBE, and performing VDR and vendor design incorporation for pumps and hydraulic equipment.
  13. Experience in participating in HAZOP/HAZID, constructability and 3D model reviews.
  14. Fire protection hydraulic design in line with NFPA and local codes such as UAE FLS & SBC is an added advantage.
  15. Ensure that all designs adhere to relevant building codes, safety regulations, and environmental standards.
  16. Able to work on and support multiple projects simultaneously
  17. Design Collaboration:
  18. Capable of leading hydraulic/surge studies independently and guiding & supporting junior engineers.
  19. Interact with clients to understand their needs, present hydraulic design proposals, and provide technical support and recommendations.
  20. Collaborate with Piping, Mechanical, Architecture, Structure, Electrical, and Instrumentation & Controls disciplines to achieve overall coordinated design.
  21. Collaborate with the BIM team to prepare 3D models and 2D layouts of pumping stations.
  22. Maintain accurate records of all design documents, hydraulic and surge calculations, and correspondence.
