About the Role

As a Principal Signal Design Engineer with Egis, you will lead the independent design review function, verification and independent principles verification of conventional signalling designs for projects, nationally. You will utilise your specialist knowledge in rail signalling to contribute to the successful management and delivery of projects for clients across ANZ.

In this role, you will:

  • Manage medium to major size projects and tenders, assuming responsibility for the management of design activities, performance requirements as well as technical and commercial responsibility of project deliverables
  • Actively identify and qualify potential new clients aligned with the service line strategy, develop pursuit plans, contribute to go/no go processes and manage bid/tender activities as required
  • Manage design approval on design packages, reports and management plans
  • Oversee the provision of design services into progressive completions and activities, including production of as-built information
  • Review and implement processes to ensure a consistent approach on each work package, ensuring design inputs for systems engineering requirements management and validation meet requirements
  • Design, check, independent verification and final sign off of high-level signalling documentation inclusive of feasibility studies; technical requirements; SOWs; bonding/cable plans; control tables; power calculations etc
  • Design, check, and conclude independent verification of infrastructure assets inclusive of trackside signalling infrastructure; train detection systems; SCADA systems; vital/non-vital interlocking systems etc
  • Provide technical advice to clients and project stakeholders and teams on interfacing operational systems
  • Test, commission and maintain signalling systems and associated supporting systems
  • Principle Testing and Simulation Testing
  • Project reporting on performance and progress, inclusive of financial reporting

What do we need from you

Ideally, you will have 15 years’ experience in railway signalling with demonstrated specialist knowledge of conventional signal design in adherence with New Zealand and Australian railway standards and guidelines. In addition, you will also have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Electrical/Electronic or Mechatronics Engineering
  • Significant demonstrated experience managing and delivering conventional signalling projects locally in Auckland.
  • Accreditation from Engineers New Zealand and membership with IRSE
  • Certificate(s) of competency from rail transport operators such as MTM, VLINE, ARTC (etc) highly desired to support projects in Australia.
  • Strong technical knowledge of conventional signal design principles, ETCS and whole of life project management experience
  • In depth knowledge of all systems that interface to signalling such as, rolling stock, power, communications, track and civil, etc.
  • Thorough understanding of Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety (RAMS)
  • Ability to people lead and/or lead a project team to successfully deliver to meet or exceed client expectations
  • Excellent understanding of document and design control processes
  • Strong planning, organisation and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong computer, software and systems literacy
  • Excellent client relationship management skill as well as strong interpersonal and communication skills
