About the Role

As a Primary Engineer within the National Substations design team, you will have an opportunity to develop designs for brownfield and greenfield substations across Australia with following voltages (MV/HV/EHV).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertaking designs of primary systems, including substation layouts, high-voltage equipment (i.e. Transformers, CB’s VT’s, CT’s, Disconnectors, Cap Banks, NER’s), busbar configurations, bay layouts, conduit and duct arrangements, cable and conductor fittings, earthing systems, lightning protection and materials lists.  
  • Ensure compliance with agreed scope and relevant standards such as AS 2067, AS 62271, IEC 60076,
  • Undertake insulation coordination, short circuit forces, earthing and cable ampacity rating studies.
  • Perform COM reviews and workshops (constructability, operability, maintainability)
  • Participate in Safety in Design (SiD) workshops and maintain design risk registers.
  • Undertake quality assurance reviews and make certain all deliverables are checked and approved prior to issue.
  • Deliver primary design outputs at various stages: Preliminary Design (30%), Developed Design (60%), Detailed Design (80%), and Issued for Construction (IFC).
  • Coordinate with secondary (protection & control), civil, structural, and SCADA disciplines to ensure alignment and accuracy.
  • Provide technical support during construction and commissioning phases.
  • Manage and respond to request for information (RFI’s)
  • Effectively manage outcomes within budget and project programme constraints whilst maintaining high levels of technical performance
  • Identify and manage scope variations according to client and/or project requirements

What do we need from you

To be successful in this opportunity, you will ideally have a minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience with demonstrated experience on electrical transmission projects. In addition, you will also have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (or equivalent)
  • RPEV and RPEQ certification
  • Experience in developing design drawings using AutoCAD and MicroStation
  • Relevant work rights to live and work full-time in Australia
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills to manage stakeholders at all levels
  • Familiar with NSP/TSP standards and connection processes
