The OMTTCC project primarily involves the operation, maintenance, and management of critical tunnel and motorway infrastructure, ensuring safety, reliability, and sustainability throughout the asset's lifecycle. ERTO serves as the contractor, responsible for delivering comprehensive services including routine and preventive maintenance, asset renewals, and upgrades, in alignment with health, safety, and environmental standards. ERTO plays a key role in coordinating with stakeholders, ensuring compliance with ISO-certified management systems, managing risks, optimizing asset performance, and implementing sustainability initiatives to reduce the environmental impact of operations. Additionally, ERTO oversees the safety documentation, change control processes, and ensures that all activities align with Transport Infrastructure Ireland’s (TII) goals for efficiency, resilience, and sustainability.
We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead and oversee the daily operations of our Tunnel and Motorway Traffic Control systems. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership and problem-solving skills, committed to delivering optimal performance, safety, and efficiency across all operations.
- Lead the operational management of OMTTCC project, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and quality standards.
- Manage a team responsible for ensuring the safe and reliable operation of the tunnel and road networks and collaborating with asset management and maintenance activities.
- Drive operational performance through proactive planning, incident management, and continuous improvement processes.
- Develop and implement strategic operational plans aligned with contractual KPIs and business objectives.
- Lead the response to any incidents, accidents, or emergencies, ensuring swift and effective resolution while minimizing impact on operations.
- Manage the coordination with emergency services and ensure all tunnel safety systems, such as fire suppression and ventilation, are operational and maintained to the highest standards.
- Investigate and report on any significant incidents, providing recommendations for future safety improvements.
- Managing policies and procedures including the production of revised procedures due to operational requirements; ensuring these procedures are followed.
- Reporting of statistics to relevant managers and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders, including safety officers, technical teams, and external partners, to ensure the highest safety standards and operational efficiency.
- Managing the time and attendance system for all relevant staff to ensure it is kept up-to-date and accurate.
- Monitor and report on operational performance, ensuring timely intervention and corrective actions where necessary.
- Lead the change control process for operational systems to ensure minimal disruption and maximum safety.
- Implement a risk-based approach to operations, proactively identifying potential issues and implementing mitigation strategies to ensure smooth operations and compliance.
- Ensure environmental sustainability goals are integrated into operations, aligning with industry best practices and local regulations.
- Prepare operational budgets and manage cost-effective service delivery.
- Implement staff development programs, ensuring team members are trained in the latest industry practices, technologies, and sustainability goals. Manage performance appraisals, staff training, and recruitment as necessary.
- Conducting annual staff appraisals
- Actively participating in the organisation of courses and materials where the course has technical complexities associated with the specific role
- Comply with requirements of the company’s Integrated Management System
- Responsible for the content of the Dublin Tunnel and Jack Lynch Tunnel websites.
Technical skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Operations Management, or a related field.
- Minimum 8-10 years of experience in operations management, preferably within the infrastructure, transport, or tunnelling sectors.
- Strong leadership skills with experience in managing cross-functional teams.
- Knowledge of ISO-certified management systems (9001, 14001, 45001, etc.) and experience in implementing safety and quality frameworks.
- Familiarity with asset management systems, including preventive and predictive maintenance approaches.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent communication skills with a demonstrated ability to manage stakeholder relationships and collaborate with technical teams, contractors, and regulatory bodies.
- Experience with sustainability initiatives and aligning operational goals with environmental objectives is a plus.
People Management:
- Proven track record in motivating and leading teams
Client skills:
- Communication with other internal experts from Egis, team projects, tunnels operators, local authorities (fire brigade and police)
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with demonstrated experience in preparing and delivering presentations for both internal and external stakeholders
- Capability to identify and manage risk
