About the Role

Egis Canada is currently seeking an experienced Overhead Contact System (OCS) Engineer to support the planning, design, and delivery of Light Rail Transit (LRT) projects across Canada.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop detailed OCS designs on an Ontario LRT project for Mainline and OMSF.
  • Produce the full suite of OCS design deliverables, including but not limited to electrical sectioning diagram, layout drawings, cross sections, profile drawings, dropper/hanger schedules, pole/structure/support details and setting-out information, Construction/erection/installation drawings and notes.
  • Perform technical calculations and checks, including mechanical loading, support spacing, span length verification, tensioning assumptions, and clearance verification (static + dynamic as applicable).
  • Prepare and maintain design basis / calculation packages and design reports to support all project phases (30/60/90/IFC).
  • Produce coordinated Issued for Construction (IFC) packages, including drawing registers, revisions, and responses to internal/independent checks.
  • Coordinate OCS interfaces with Traction Power, Signaling, Communications, Civil/Structural, Trackwork, Stations/Architectural, and Utilities, ensuring physical and functional integration.
  • Support interface management by contributing to Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and resolving interface issues through design coordination.
  • Develop technical documentation including specifications, BOQs/quantities, installation requirements, and construction notes.
  • Provide engineering support during installation, testing, and commissioning, including site inspections, technical queries, punch-list support, and redline/as-built capture.
  • Support development and review of test and commissioning procedures, ensuring OCS readiness, safety, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant standards, codes, and client requirements (CSA, AREMA, EN, IEC, etc.)
  • Use CAD/design platforms (e.g., MicroStation and/or equivalent tools) to produce accurate models/drawings and maintain drafting standards, layering, and document control.

What do we need from you

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil/Structural Engineering.
  • P.Eng. designation in Canada (or eligibility to obtain).
  • 5-10 years of railway experience in OCS design and implementation. Direct Current (DC) experience is preferred. AC experience is advantageous.
  • Experience with OCS structural calculations in Canadian Context.
  • Proficiency in software used for OCS design, such as MicroStation and AutoCAD.
  • Preference for Light Rail Transit (LRT) experience. Heavy rail and High-Speed rail experience is advantageous.
  • Fluency in English and excellent communication skills. French is advantageous.
