The M40 motorway is just over 123kms (about 76.43 mi) long, linking London and the M25 with Birmingham, with high traffic levels ranging from 90,000 to 140,000 daily. The contract is for routine O&M services, and provision of a dedicated incident response unit. There are 110+ staff across 3 depots. The contract also includes the management of road incidents, road availability / road-space bookings, and running Network Control Centre NCC).
MISSION & MAIN ACTIVITIES:
Reporting to the ERO M40 NCC Lead, the Network Control Centre operator will be responsible for Motorway incident management, abnormal load notification processing, booking of roadspace onto National Highways booking system (NEMS) as requested by internal and external parties and assisting with Customer Contact Centre enquiries, claims and complaints. The role will also require supporting different departments and aspects of the maintenance contract on the M40 Motorway.
Key Responsibilities:
· Accurately log jobs for motorway incident management such as, but not limited to: collisions, debris, defects and vandalism.
· Collect and record data to support Red and Green claims.
· Book relevant road space for all parties as requested onto the National Highways booking system (NEMS).
· Assist the NCC Lead and planning department on compliance to National Highways 7-day closure notification
· Compile and submit daily, weekly, and monthly reports and KPIs
· Record data on various databases and spreadsheets to meet the National Highways Audit requirements
· Liaise with ISU Operatives, Supervisors, Managers, Senior Management and escalate issues where necessary
· Assist with logging, closing and compiling information & data for Customer Contact Centre enquiries and claims
· Respond to CCC logs, distribute to UKH or redirect to National Highways DBFO representatives if requested by NCC Lead
· Assist with the reporting of near misses, undesired circumstances and injuries in line with Health and Safety regulations and processes
· Record and check abnormal load movements and special orders against an exception criterion and escalate where needed.
· Assist with training and development of new team members as required by the NCC Lead
· Undertake gate opening responsibility for all 3 operational depots across the M40 contract and assist with receiving deliveries
· Support the 24/7 operation and assist with cover for shifts, sick leave and holiday periods
· To work a 4 on 4 off 12 hour shift pattern
· Contribute to the development of best practice and standard operating procedures for the team.
· Develop a good working relationship with our client and partners
· To fully engage with the promotion and adoption of any current and future health, safety and wellbeing initiatives rolled out by Egis Road operation M40 Ltd and/or Egis UK.
· Participate in training programs to stay updated on best practice in Highway maintenance and NEMS compliance.
· To carry out other such related duties as maybe required
· Previous experience of roadspace booking & the National Highways Network Event Management system (NEMS).
· Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
· Ability to remain calm under pressure
· Proven experience in a fast-paced operational environment.
· Proficient in MS Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and SharePoint.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Self-motivated with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
· Capable of working independently and collaboratively.
· Strong organisational skills and ability to manage time effectively.
· Skilled in prioritising tasks effectively, ensuring urgent and high-impact work is addressed promptly
