Egis Road operation M40 Ltd The M40 motorway is just over 123kms long, linking London and the M25 with Birmingham, with high traffic levels ranging from 90,000 to 140,000 daily. The contract is for routine O&M services, and provision of a dedicated incident response unit. There are 110+ staff across 3 depots. The contract also includes the management of road incidents, road availability / road-space bookings, and running Network Control Centre NCC).


About the Role

MISSION & MAIN ACTIVITIES: Reporting to the Egis General Manager, Operations M40, the Hand back Manager will be part of the M40 senior management team and will be responsible for leading the strategic delivery of the hand back phase of a DBFO (Design, Build, Finance, Operate) highways contract. This role ensures that all highway assets are returned to UK Highways in accordance with the contractual hand back requirements, maintaining compliance, asset integrity, and stakeholder confidence. Key Responsibilities: · Interpret and implement handback clauses within the DBFO agreement. · Ensure all contractual obligations are met ahead of the contract expiry. · Liaise with the Asset team on asset condition assessments across the network (e.g., pavements, structures, lighting, drainage). · Identify remedial works required to meet handback standards and liaise with other departments to ensure those works are undertaken. · Work in partnership with the Operations Manager to ensure the efficient delivery of remedial handback related activities · Act as the primary point of contact for the Clients, UK Highways and National Highways, independent certifiers, and technical advisors. · Provide clear, timely communication and reporting throughout the handback process · Ensure complete and accurate transfer of asset data, maintenance records, warranties, and operational documentation in conjunction with the Asset team. · Identify risks related to compliance and transition and communicate those to the Asset team. · Create and manage the risk register related to handback and maintain communication around this with the wider Senior management team. · Implement assurance processes to validate handback readiness.


What do we need from you

· Degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering, Asset Management, or related discipline.

· Proven experience in highways asset management, ideally within DBFO or PFI environments.

· Familiarity with UK road construction standards (e.g., DMRB, Well-Managed Highway Infrastructure).

· Experience in stakeholder management and contract delivery. Skills & Competencies
