Project Description
The successful individual will support and work with the inhouse project delivery team to provide works across several asset classes to include substations, underground cables, overhead lines and civils. This will cover at all system voltages from low voltage (LV) up to and including 132kV.
The Opportunity
As an Junior Project Manager, you will join a project team-based environment, supplementing our clients in-house capability. You will be responsible for supporting project engineering activities through all stages of a project’s life cycle, from inception to closure/completion, or discrete stages of works. This role is suitable for those with minimal or no experience in electricity distribution asset classes and typically less than 2 years’ experience practicing as a project engineer, including trainees or graduate engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the assessment and utilisation of company documentation, including project functional specifications.
- Work in accordance with company and relevant business systems, processes, and procedures.
- Assist with updating company data and information systems to ensure project data is accurately recorded.
- Participate in on-site investigations to support project designs.
- Contribute to the production of cost proposals and technical support for connection quote requests.
- Aid in the development of project designs and documentation.
- Support engineering design, feasibility, and technical development work.
- Assist with specification and ordering of equipment, plant, and services.
- Participate in witness testing of plant and equipment and attend Factory Acceptance Testing as required.
- Interface with customers, stakeholders, and internal/external resources.
- Support project management activities within a team-based environment to ensure safe, timely, and high-quality delivery.
- Maintain effective communication within the project team.
- Comply with company quality, safety, and environmental standards and participate in routine audits and inspections.
- Provide customer service and support stakeholder management.
- Assist with environmental management and routine reporting.
- Record accurate and timely reports on progress and status of projects.
- Support risk management and resource programming activities.
- Either possess or be capable to successfully obtain, and maintain, the company operational authorisation requirements for access to operational substations.
Knowledge & Qualifications
- Minimum Higher National Certificate (HNC) academic qualification in Electrical Engineering or degree in relevant field.
- Up to 2 years’ experience practicing as a project engineer, trainee, or graduate engineer.
- Experience with distribution system asset classes (overhead lines, cables, substations, civil works, work programmes) beneficial but not essential.
- Willingness to travel between work locations, sites, and company/supplier offices.
- Current and valid UK driving licence.
Additional Information
- Services are delivered across operational and non-operational sites within its geographical licence area. Principal office locations include Castleford, Hull, Hellaby, York, Stockton, Penshaw, and Shiremoor.
- Expenses for travel and accommodation incurred for company needs will be paid separately, subject to company allowances and contract terms.
- The allocation and mix of project work may vary and will be determined by company priorities.
- All work should be performed in strict accordance with company processes, procedures, and industry best practice.
