Maintain, operate, and enhance the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) communication network infrastructure including Wide Area and Local Area Networks to meet performance and availability based service levels along with oversight of the cyber-security management to ensure network integrity and security are not compromised. This role ensures all network components—such as servers, switches, routers, and communication links—function effectively to support real-time traffic operations, data flow, and system reliability and security. The telecommunications network links ITS roadside devices and tunnels devices to the primary and secondary control centre, tunnels control centers and data centers.
Responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing ITS communication networks.
- Lead the operations monitoring, management and maintenance of ITS communication networks (fiber, wireless, and IP-based systems).
- Oversee network performance, ensuring high availability, redundancy, and security across ITS and tunnels subsystems (CCTV, VMS, SCATS, sensors, etc.); managing the predictive, preventive and corrective maintenance activities required
- Manage configuration, troubleshooting, and upgrades of routers, switches, firewalls, and network monitoring tools.
- Coordinate with system vendors and contractors for network integration, testing, and maintenance.
- Ensure data communication between the Traffic Control Center and field devices remains uninterrupted and as per the performance SLAs.
- Monitor network performance using diagnostic tools and manage the response to alerts or failures promptly; review the configuration and performance of the diagnostic tools and identify innovative solutions for streamlining and enhancing the performance
- Manage the maintenance and update of network documentation, IP addressing schemes, system diagrams, topologies and configuration management tools. Identifying opportunities for automation and implementing recognized best practice
- Manage the implementation and management of cybersecurity measures in coordination with IT and ensure compliance with security standards. Manage the security scanning, testing, patching, training and mitigation strategies.
- Provide leadership and training to ITS network engineers and technicians.
- Prepare technical reports, performance summaries, and recommendations for system and network improvements.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Network Engineering, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- +12 years of experience in network management, preferably in ITS, SCADA, or critical infrastructure systems. (+5 Years as managerial role)
- Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, routing protocols (OSPF, BGP), VLANs, VPNs, and network security.
- Experience with Cisco, Huawei, Palo Alto, Juniper, or equivalent network hardware.
- Familiarity with ITS communication protocols (NTCIP, SNMP, RS232/485, Ethernet).
- Certification such as CCNP, CCIE, or equivalent is an advantage.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Strong leadership and communication abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.
- Knowledge of fiber optic systems, radio communication, and IP video systems.
