Intermediate Bridge Engineer based in Grande Prairie, AB, Canada, supporting the delivery of bridge rehabilitation and new bridge design projects within the transportation infrastructure sector. The role contributes to structural engineering assignments involving steel and concrete bridge structures, working across multidisciplinary teams engaged in detailed design, technical analysis, contract preparation, and construction support activities.
Project responsibilities span concept development, detailed design, tender preparation, construction liaison, and rehabilitation planning. The position requires collaboration with highway, foundation, environmental, drainage, and electrical engineering disciplines while maintaining compliance with applicable transportation standards and structural design codes.
The ideal candidate possesses approximately five or more years of bridge engineering experience, professional engineering registration, and demonstrated involvement in Alberta transportation and municipal infrastructure projects, including structural analysis, technical reporting, and transportation structure rehabilitation.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare engineering design deliverables for bridge rehabilitation and new bridge projects, including structural design documentation and technical submissions.
- Perform structural analysis and detailed engineering calculations for steel and concrete bridge structures.
- Support project planning activities, including scope definition, budget development, schedule preparation, and technical oversight.
- Develop and review engineering models, drawings, specifications, quantity calculations, cost estimates, and technical reports.
- Contribute to bridge design review activities for new structures and rehabilitation assignments.
- Support transportation structure inspections, condition evaluations, and rehabilitation recommendations.
- Assist with preparation and review of tender documentation, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering activities with highway, foundation, environmental, drainage, and electrical teams.
- Participate in project management functions, including budget control, schedule monitoring, quality control, and client coordination.
- Provide technical guidance to CAD Designer/Drafters, Designers, and junior engineering staff.
- Ensure regulatory compliance with applicable bridge design codes, policies, standards, and project requirements.
- Support construction liaison and contract administration activities during project delivery.
Required
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Professional Engineer designation (P.Eng. or PE).
- Minimum 5years of bridge design and/or Project Management experience on Alberta Transportation & Economic Corridors (TEC) and municipal infrastructure projects..
- Experience with TEC bridge inventory including standard bridges, bridge sized culverts, and major bridge structures.
- Experience in detailed bridge design and contract preparation.
- Proficiency with Midas and CSiBridge structural analysis software.
- Knowledge of Alberta transportation standards and policies.
- Working knowledge of CSA S6 Highway Bridge Design Code, AASHTO, and ARIMA Codes.
- Ability to support construction liaison and contract administration activities.
- Experience contributing to technical design reports and engineering documentation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Valid driver's license.
Assets
- Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Experience supporting bridge rehabilitation programs for municipal transportation networks.
- Exposure to multidisciplinary infrastructure project delivery environments.
- Experience participating in construction-phase engineering support activities.
- Demonstrated involvement in cost estimating and tender package development.
