The Role
The purpose of this position is to support the railway system's safety activities on rail projects in Ireland.
Responsibilities:
- Reports to the Head of Systems Safety.
- Carry out core systems safety activities on projects.
- Develop project specific system safety documents in compliance with IÉ processes, CRR guidelines and National and European regulations.
- Undertake engineering roles across the railway business to build competence.
- Generate core railway project documents including change proposal forms, project safety cases, applications for safety approval, and hazard records.
- Engage with the clients to build good relationships with Egis.
- Carry out hazard identification using hazard identification workshops (HAZIDs), hazard and operability studies (HAZOPs) and other methods.
- Carry out hazard management for rail projects.
- Define CSM Risk Acceptance Principles to control the risk arising from each hazard and identify potential safety requirements to control risks to an acceptable level.
- Provide compliance evidence and work collaboratively with the Client and Independent Assessor (AsBo/NoBo/DeBo/ISA) to achieve the required Authorisations under Railway Safety Act, Railways Interoperability Regulations and IÉ or CRR standards and guidelines.
- Work closely with clients to support safety applications to IMSAP (or RUSAP as appropriate) and the CRR.
- Demonstrate familiarity with CSM regulations (COMMISSION IMPLEMENTING REGULATION (EU) No 402/2013) and CENELEC Standards (EN50126, 50129, 50716).
- Identify Technical Standards for Interoperability (TSI) clauses applicable to a project.
- Verify and assess the design & construction requirements and the functionality of the design for reliability and safety purposes.
- Take ownership of and manage all system safety assurance deliverables – under the guidance of a senior engineer.
- Assist in audits – under the guidance of a senior engineer.

- Degree (or equivalent) in engineering or an appropriate discipline.
- Willingness to learn new disciplines.
- Strong team player.
- Able to take the initiative and provide constructive leadership when called upon to do so.
