The Global Director of Signalling & Telecoms defines, leads, and delivers Egis’ global rail signalling and telecoms strategy across geographies and market segments. The role drives operational excellence, sustainable growth, and profitability, while strengthening Egis’ positioning as a trusted partner for signalling programmes worldwide.

The role combines strategic leadership, operational oversight, business development, and people leadership, with a strong focus on cross-regional collaboration and delivery excellence.

Travel will be expected from time to time. Ideally London based, however, consideration will be made for the right individual.


About the Role

Strategy, governance & alignment

  • Contribute to the definition and deployment of the Group strategy for signalling and telecoms.
  • Ensure regional signalling and telecoms strategies are aligned with Group objectives.
  • Promote harmonised governance, delivery standards, and technical excellence across Egis entities.
  • Support Executive Management in strategic decisions related to signalling and telecoms activities.
  • Identify and deliver key strategic initiatives to enter and grow in new markets.
  • Build signalling capability in new regions (seed capability supported by global resources).
  • Define growth pathways (organic growth vs. partnerships vs. acquisitions).

Operational oversight & performance

  • Oversee the performance of global signalling and telecoms operations, including major ongoing and upcoming projects.
  • Support regions on complex projects, including:
  • Project mobilisation: ensure mobilisation is aligned with contractual commitments, resources, and governance.
  • Technical risks & opportunities: support Project and Technical Directors in identifying, managing, and tracking risks and opportunities.
  • Technical audits: organise and contribute to technical audits when required.
  • Task forces: set up and lead task forces to recover projects in difficulty (e.g., schedule slippage, technical roadblocks, degraded client relationships, or sensitive contractual matters).
  • Promote best practices, standardisation, and continuous improvement across rail operations.
  • Contribute to the global rail delivery/production strategy to improve efficiency, quality, risk control, and alignment with regional capabilities.
  • Coordinate global resourcing by mobilising expertise across regions to support major projects and bids, and optimise the use of design centres (e.g., Thailand / Australia / France).

 Business development & market positioning

  • Lead and/or support major signalling pursuits globally, including flagship programmes (ERTMS, FRMCS).
  • Strengthen Egis’ positioning with key clients, partners, and public authorities.
  • Participate in go/no-go and bid/no-bid decisions for strategic bids and investment opportunities.
  • Develop partnerships, joint ventures, and alliances with key industry players.
  • Anticipate market trends and position Egis on emerging rail opportunities.
  • Drive coordination and synergies between regions on major pursuits.
  • Support bid teams to develop the best offer: define the bid delivery/production strategy (with the Technical Director), coordinate with engineering and commercial teams to develop the proposal and methodology, articulate differentiators, and identify references and CVs.
  • Resourcing: liaise with the HR Director to identify and mobilise key resources.
  • Maintain strong technical credibility and understanding of systems, products, and suppliers (e.g., Alstom, Siemens, Hitachi, Frauscher)

People & talent management

  • Promote a strong culture of collaboration, ethics, safety, and diversity across signalling and telecoms activities.
  • Identify and promote global SMEs (e.g., ETCS, conventional signalling, telecoms).
  • In coordination with regions, support the identification and selection of key staff for major rail projects.

Risk, compliance & ethics

  • Ensure compliance with Egis policies, ethical standards, and applicable regulations.
  • Oversee risk management related to contracts, delivery, and conflicts of interest.
  • Support the resolution of sensitive governance or compliance matters when required.

Coordination & interfaces

  • Work closely with Regional Managing Directors, Country CEOs, and Business Line leaders.
  • Ensure effective coordination between regions and other Egis business lines and service lines.
  • Represent Global Signalling & Telecoms in internal executive forums when required.

What do we need from you

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • Chartered Engineer/Technician membership or equivalent professional status from a recognised institution such as IMechE or IET. Having held a relevant IRSE Licence would be beneficial.
  • BSc or similar in Bachelor Degree (BEng, BSc) in a Numerate, Scientific or Engineering subject or Higher Education/equivalent training and experience.
  • You will have led large teams on Rail projects and have work winning experience.
  • Experience on major signalling projects internationally for Mainline and High-speed projects.
  • Experience of leading bids in a consultancy environment.
  • Excellent relationship management skills with the ability to engage, negotiate and manage key stakeholders.
