This strategic move underscores our commitment to investing in North America, propelling our expansion to new heights.
Egis is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer – Team Lead, MEP to lead and grow our electrical building-services capability in Canada.
This is a senior technical and leadership role combining electrical engineering, project delivery, client engagement, team leadership and business development. The successful candidate will provide leadership for the design and delivery of electrical systems for commercial, institutional, transportation, aviation and other building and facility projects.
The Team Lead will work closely with mechanical, architectural, structural, civil and other engineering disciplines to deliver integrated MEP solutions. The role will also support the continued growth of Egis's electrical practice by developing staff, strengthening technical standards and quality processes, supporting proposals and pursuing new project opportunities.
The ideal candidate is a technically strong Professional Engineer with significant Canadian MEP/building electrical design experience who is comfortable leading both people and projects.
Team Leadership
- Provide day-to-day technical and people leadership to electrical engineers, designers and BIM staff supporting MEP projects.
- Support resource planning, workload management and allocation of electrical staff across projects.
- Mentor and develop junior and intermediate engineers and designers.
- Support employee development through technical coaching, knowledge sharing and regular feedback.
- Establish clear expectations for technical quality, project delivery and accountability.
- Promote collaboration between the MEP electrical team and Egis's broader Electrical, Mechanical and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Support recruitment and onboarding as the MEP electrical team continues to grow.
Technical Leadership and Project Delivery
- Lead the planning, design and delivery of electrical systems for MEP and building projects from concept through detailed design, construction and commissioning.
- Lead electrical design activities including power distribution, service and utility coordination, transformers, switchgear, panelboards, emergency and standby power systems, UPS systems and associated electrical infrastructure.
- Lead the design of lighting and lighting controls, emergency lighting, receptacle and small-power systems, grounding and bonding, lightning protection and other building electrical systems.
- Provide technical leadership for fire alarm, communications, security and other low-voltage/ELV systems, as applicable to project scope.
- Prepare and review electrical load calculations, equipment sizing, cable and feeder sizing, voltage-drop calculations, short-circuit and coordination studies and other electrical engineering calculations.
- Develop and review single-line diagrams, electrical layouts, equipment schedules, specifications, reports, tender documents and construction packages.
- Perform technical and QA/QC reviews of electrical engineering deliverables.
- Ensure designs comply with the Canadian Electrical Code, applicable provincial building and fire codes, client standards and other relevant codes and industry requirements.
- Support projects during tender, construction, testing, commissioning and handover, including review of shop drawings, RFIs, change requests and field conditions.
- Participate in site investigations, field reviews and construction-phase engineering support.
MEP and Multidisciplinary Coordination
- Coordinate electrical designs with mechanical, architectural, structural, civil and other engineering disciplines.
- Work closely with mechanical teams on HVAC equipment power requirements, controls interfaces, equipment locations and electrical infrastructure requirements.
- Lead electrical BIM coordination and support integrated multidisciplinary design using Revit and other digital design tools.
- Identify and resolve multidisciplinary design conflicts and constructability issues.
- Participate in design coordination meetings, technical workshops and client reviews.
Quality and Technical Standards
- Champion engineering quality and consistent application of Egis QA/QC processes.
- Develop and maintain electrical design standards, calculation templates, specifications, typical details, BIM standards and other technical tools.
- Support continuous improvement of engineering workflows and project delivery practices.
- Promote lessons learned and knowledge sharing across projects and teams.
- Maintain awareness of evolving codes, technologies, sustainability requirements and industry best practices.
Client and Business Development
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, architects, contractors and project partners.
- Participate in client meetings and provide senior technical representation for Egis.
- Support preparation of proposals, scopes of work, fee estimates and project execution plans.
- Assist with identifying and pursuing new MEP and building-services opportunities.
- Provide technical input to pursuits, interviews and presentations.
- Support the continued growth of Egis's MEP electrical practice and broader multidisciplinary building-services offering in Canada.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in good standing with a Canadian engineering regulator, or eligibility for registration in the applicable province.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive electrical engineering experience, with significant experience in MEP/building electrical design.
- Minimum 5 years of Canadian consulting engineering experience involving building electrical systems and multidisciplinary project delivery.
- Demonstrated experience leading electrical design teams and managing electrical engineering deliverables.
- Strong knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and applicable building, fire and electrical standards.
- Strong experience with building power distribution, lighting, emergency power, grounding and associated electrical systems.
- Demonstrated experience delivering projects from concept and detailed design through construction and commissioning.
- Experience coordinating electrical designs with mechanical, architectural, structural and other disciplines.
- Strong technical writing, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop engineering and design staff.
- Strong client-facing and project-management capabilities.
Preferred / Assets
- Experience with Revit MEP and BIM-based project delivery.
- Experience with AutoCAD and electrical engineering/design software.
- Experience with ETAP, AGi32, ElumTools or similar electrical analysis and lighting-design software.
- Experience with fire alarm, communications, security and other building low-voltage systems.
- Experience delivering electrical systems for one or more of the following sectors:
- Commercial and mixed-use developments
- Institutional and educational facilities
- Healthcare facilities
- Transportation facilities
- Airports and aviation facilities
- Industrial facilities
- Data centres or mission-critical facilities
- Experience with sustainable and energy-efficient building design, electrification, EV charging, renewable energy or low-carbon building strategies.
- Experience supporting proposals, fee development and business development.
- Previous formal team-lead or people-management experience within a multidisciplinary engineering consulting environment.
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who can help build a team and a capability, not simply deliver individual projects.
The successful candidate will combine strong electrical engineering fundamentals with practical MEP design experience, sound engineering judgment and an ability to lead people. They will be comfortable working directly with clients and multidisciplinary project teams while maintaining accountability for technical quality, schedule and project delivery.
The role is well suited to an engineer who enjoys mentoring others, solving complex multidisciplinary design challenges and helping grow a building-services practice.
