Reporting into Egis Romania Transportation Manager/Deputy Transportation Manager in coordination with the Europe Transportation Director or his delegate, the job of design manager will require you to be able to:
- Manage the local design activity, providing overall direction and leadership but also coordinate with the head of Design Production for Central Eastern Europe and the Technical representatives of the Design centers representatives within Egis (e.g. to facilitate transfer of knowledge/experience), as being the contact point for the exchanges with the other design group teams
- Plan, organize and control workflow within design department and assign tasks, coordinate inter-specialties collaboration
- Implement the production strategy for major design projects in Romania, defined in collaboration with the representatives of the Transportation Service Line
- Develop the skills and capacity of design teams, based on the technical investment program.
- Forecasting design team workload to match availability with demands including anticipating peaks/troughs and potential solutions to them
- Ensure successful delivery and customer satisfaction of all projects in the department, in-line with company processes, including performance and risk management.
- Understand and oversee the design production needs and priorities and ensure that they are allocated and delivered accordingly.
- Ensure implementation of local and group procedures and processes
- Seek to improve the efficiency of company processes, see opportunities, be open-minded to listening and exploring new avenues.
- Ensure that project and design budgets and overall needs are accurately forecast, monitored and regularly reviewed.
- Maintain relationship and regular contact with Clients, Partners, Subcontractors - accurately identifying needs and effectively finding and support the Project Managers in negotiating solutions to meet them. Represent the wider company effectively and introduce other staff.
- Developing the business by maintaining awareness of current issues and trends in the market, anticipating projects.
- Effectively manage the internal co-ordination of the teams, providing support to the Project Managers and being involved in recruitment.
- Manage human resources in your department ensuring well-being and professional development of staff.
We recognize that each applicant will bring different experience, but the ideal candidate will have:
- At least 10 years of proven experience in a similar position in the field of road and rail infrastructure design in Romania
- Prior experience in managing and/or mentoring teams including the ability to lead and motivate people and to transmit knowledge and expertise
- Experience in managing multi-disciplinary design services for infrastructures
- Experience with managing international contracts (including public procurement laws, international contractual standards such as FIDIC, NEC, etc)
- Effective management style required to formulate and motivate teams
- Flexibility and adaptability, including the ability to work under stress and extended hours and manage priorities and risks at high speed
- Good skills in organising, scheduling, planning, able to delegate tasks and responsibilities where appropriate
- Fluent in Romanian and English with ability to write concise, well-structured and clear reports summarising complex information
- Civil Engineering degree or equivalent, majoring in railways, roads and bridges
- Strong computer skills (proficiency in recognised design software and Microsoft applications).
