Our expertise extends to stations, depots, operations, maintenance analytics and asset management across all aspects of rail, including transport, technical and sustainability assessments and systems infrastructure.


About the Role

You will be based in our office in Birmingham and will be required to be in the office 3 days a week.

Purpose of the Job:

To support the NOP1 Commercial Lead with preparation of the monthly Application for Payment for the Design Joint Venture.

To support Adjustment Events and Risk Drawdowns, bottom up forecasts and estimating the cost of change.

To manage Subcontractors contracts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparation, analysis and point of contact of the monthly application for payment
  • Establishing and setting the project control budget aligned with agreed baselines
  • Maintain responsibility for the accuracy of cost data, including transposition into Cost systems and business reporting
  • Tracking of actual costs both for internal and external expenditure against the cost controls structures
  • Stakeholder management of the finance teams, delivery teams and internal reporting
  • Drive enhanced performance in the delivery teams by supporting the teams in areas including preparation and review of Change Request Forms
  • Assure all Cost data that feeds into Cost reporting within the area, as well as all Cost data that feeds into Programme reporting
  • Act as main point of contact for all Cost reporting and Cost intelligence, working closely with the MMA Commercial Lead to maintain Cost Systems ensuring accurate reporting, benchmarking and analysis of Clients infrastructure costs;
  • Ensure continuous development and improvement of Clients policies, procedures and resources for all Cost services
  • Work closely with the Finance, Commercial, Project Management teams and other Project Controls functions to ensure Cost is integrated with all other functions and aids in informing decisions; and in the reporting process to provide timely and accurate advice to inform decision making
  • Establish a forum for sharing best practice cost information across contracts
  • Generate estimates when required for new scope of scope change
  • Provide estimating support and integrate with other programme controls functions, including change control
  • Take reasonable care of your own and others health and safety and of those who may be affected in the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working to the MMA Safety principles
  • Cooperate with the MMA in all matters relating to health and safety, including following and safe working procedures at all times
  • Act as a role model for the MMA’s vision and values, behaving in ways that are in alignment with the MMA’s Ways of Working
  • Promote equality in the workplace and adopt appropriate behaviour when interacting with colleagues
  • Take necessary care to properly protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of corporate information from unauthorised disclosure, modification or destruction. Never knowingly put the MMA’s information or information systems at risk

Main Challenges:

  • Promote consistency in cost control across a diverse set of design disciplines, so that outputs are consistent, comprehensive and enable informed decision making
  • Proactively maintain contact with both internal and external key stakeholders to help the cost management function meet expectations and respond to their requirements and the changing needs of the MMA Programme

 


What do we need from you

  • Degree or equivalent in Quantity Surveying, Cost Engineering or Construction Management
  • Membership of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors would be preferable
  • Significant experience in Cost Management, Engineering or related field.
  • High level of capability in MS Excel
  • Experience in technical and practical application of estimating, pricing and costing on major infrastructure projects
  • Understand the inter-relationship between time cost and commercial aspects of the project life cycle
  • Major Civils, Mechanical and Electrical Services and Railway systems experience.
  • Good communication skills
