About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Claims Manager with a strong quantity surveying and commercial background to lead the preparation, assessment and resolution of contractual claims on a major London-based project. You will work remotely for much of the week while partnering with project, commercial, planning and delivery teams. You will identify contractual entitlement, protect the project’s commercial position and help resolve issues before they escalate. Attendance at project meetings or locations in London will be required when necessary, so the ideal candidate will be based in London or within a practical commuting distance.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the end-to-end management of contractor and client-side claims, from early identification and strategy through submission, negotiation and resolution.

• Prepare robust, fully evidenced claim narratives covering contractual entitlement, cause and effect, quantum and supporting records.

• Assess incoming claims and variations, testing contractual basis, valuation, programme impact and the quality of substantiation.

• Apply quantity surveying expertise to cost build-ups, valuations, change control, loss and expense, disruption and prolongation assessments.

• Work with planning and project controls colleagues to understand delay, sequencing, productivity and time-related cost impacts.

• Advise Project Managers and senior stakeholders on contractual risk, claim strategy, commercial exposure and recommended actions.

• Support the administration of Early Warnings, Compensation Events, notices, instructions and other contract communications under NEC contracts.

• Maintain accurate claim registers, contemporaneous records, correspondence and audit trails, ensuring deadlines and notice requirements are met.

• Lead or support negotiations with clients, contractors and supply-chain partners to achieve fair, timely and commercially sound outcomes.

• Help prevent disputes through proactive issue resolution and support adjudication, mediation, expert review or other formal processes when required.

• Produce concise reports on claim status, value, risk, forecast position and key decisions.

• Promote consistent claims-management practice, lessons learned and effective record keeping across the project team.

What do we need from you

Essential Experience and Knowledge

• Substantial experience managing construction, engineering or infrastructure claims as a Claims Manager, Senior Quantity Surveyor, Commercial Manager or similar.

• A strong quantity surveying background, with proven capability in valuation, cost analysis, change control and commercial reporting.

• Demonstrable experience preparing, assessing and negotiating contractual claims using clear evidence and well-structured written submissions.

• Sound understanding of contractual entitlement, notice requirements, causation, quantum and contemporaneous record keeping.

• Experience working with NEC forms of contract, including Early Warnings and Compensation Events, or closely comparable change-management mechanisms.

• Ability to interpret contract terms, correspondence, programmes, cost records and project documentation and turn them into a coherent commercial position.

• Confident stakeholder management and negotiation skills, with the credibility to challenge constructively and explain complex issues clearly.

• Ability to work independently, manage competing deadlines and collaborate effectively in a remote-first project environment.

• Availability to attend project meetings or sites in London when required.

Desirable Experience and Knowledge

• Experience on major energy, utilities, rail, transport or other complex infrastructure programmes.

• Exposure to FIDIC, JCT or bespoke engineering and construction contracts alongside NEC.
