About the Role

Control Room Operator will be based at the Traffic Scotland National Control Centre and will be responsible for the effective and efficient delivery of day-to-day Traffic Scotland services.

Working within a Control Room environment to ensure continual monitoring of the Scottish Trunk Road Network and providing the required assistance and actions during incidents, breakdowns, road works, major events, poor weather conditions and other circumstances which affect journey times and the travelling public.

Key responsibilities are:

  • Monitoring the Scottish Trunk Road Network
  • Using CCTV & ITS systems
  • Responding to traffic incidents and events
  • Answering emergency roadside telephones
  • Keeping the public advised via lane control signal units, variable message signs, websites and social media
  • Recording and logging events and activities carried out within the control room

What do we need from you

  • Standard Grade / ’O’ Grade (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics.
  • Continually seek to identify / implement measures and/or processes to improve control room efficiency and/or operational functionality.
  • Ability to work under pressure and deliver a high level of customer service.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively at all levels.
  • Organisational skills, able to effectively prioritise and multi-task.
  • Problem-solver and solutions-oriented to improve process and achieve results.
  • Flexible and adaptable to support service delivery.

This role will be full-time, including nightshifts and working on public holidays, and based on 12-hour shifts including weekend working. This requires the person to be flexible and work different shift patterns, dependent on the service requirements. There will be a requirement to work additional hours, on an enhanced basis, on occasion to support the operational service such as during severe weather events, major events, etc.
