About the Role

Role Purpose

The Chief Draftsman – Tekla 3D RC is responsible for the technical leadership and coordination of reinforced concrete detailing activities for the Nuclear Island buildings of the EPR on Sizewell C.

The role combines hands-on expertise in Tekla 3D RC modelling with technical supervision, consistency control, and interface management, working closely with the BIM Coordinator, engineers, and Senior Draftsmen. The Chief Draftsman ensures that RC modelling outputs meet the highest standards of constructability, nuclear quality, and BIM compliance.

Scope of Works – Nuclear Island Buildings

The role covers safety-critical Nuclear Island structures, including:

  • Common Raft and Reactor Buildings
  • Fuel Buildings
  • Safeguard Buildings
  • Airplane Crash-resistant Buildings

These structures involve extreme RC complexity, high safety classification, and stringent nuclear constraints.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & RC Detailing Oversight

  • Define and control RC modelling strategies, detailing principles, and constructability approaches.
  • Review and validate:
    • 3D RC models
    • Reinforcement layouts
    • GA drawings and BBS
  • Ensure consistent implementation of engineering intent across all RC models.

Team Coordination & Interface Management

  • Coordinate and supervise Senior and Junior Draftsmen working on Nuclear Island structures.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and day-to-day support to the drafting team.
  • Act as the main interface between:
    • Drafting team
    • Structural engineers
    • BIM Coordinator
  • Support resolution of complex clashes, interfaces, and constructability issues.

BIM & Quality Assurance

  • Ensure RC modelling activities comply with:
    • BIM Execution Plan (BEP)
    • Model structuring, naming, and data requirements
    • Nuclear quality and safety expectations
  • Contribute to model reviews, coordination meetings, and audits.
  • Ensure traceability, version control, and robustness of RC modelling deliverables.

Nuclear Context & Compliance

  • Ensure all RC detailing complies with:
    • Project procedures
    • Applicable standards (Eurocodes, RCC-CW where relevant)
  • Promote and enforce a strong nuclear safety culture within the drafting team.
  • Support responses to client, regulator, and construction queries related to RC detailing.

What do we need from you

  • Extensive experience in reinforced concrete detailing using Tekla Structures.
  • Proven background on large, complex infrastructure or nuclear projects.
  • Strong understanding of constructability of thick, congested RC structures.
  • Ability to manage technical interfaces and detailing consistency across multiple buildings.
  • Leadership capability within a technical drafting environment.

Desirable Experience

  • Direct experience on Hinkley Point C, Sizewell C, or EPR-type projects.
  • Familiarity with nuclear-grade BIM environments.
  • Experience working within ProjectWise or equivalent CDEs.
  • Previous experience acting as Lead / Chief Draftsman on major projects.
