BIM/CAD Technologist – FEC Buildings is an intermediate-to-senior technical role based in Toronto, ON, Canada, supporting multidisciplinary building and infrastructure projects. The position is responsible for producing, coordinating, and managing digital models and drawing deliverables for Field Electrical Centre (FEC) facilities across electrical, mechanical, structural, and architectural disciplines.
The role spans design through construction and as-built phases, including federated model coordination, clash detection, and BIM execution plan (BEP) compliance within a Common Data Environment (CDE). Work involves close collaboration with engineering teams to resolve spatial conflicts and maintain model accuracy across systems.
The ideal candidate brings 5–8 years of BIM/CAD experience, strong Revit expertise, and exposure to multi-discipline coordination on infrastructure or building projects, particularly those involving complex electrical systems or critical facilities.
Key Responsibilities
BIM Modelling & CAD Production
- Develop and maintain Revit models for FEC buildings across all disciplines (electrical, mechanical/HVAC, structural, architectural)
- Produce construction drawing sets including plans, sections, elevations, schematics, and details to project standards
- Manage drawing registers, revision control, and sheet issue tracking throughout design and construction phases
- Ensure model LOD compliance per the project BEP at each design milestone
Coordination & Clash Detection
- Run federated model coordination in Navisworks or equivalent; lead clash detection sessions and issue clash reports to discipline leads
- Coordinate spatial conflicts between electrical equipment (CCRs, switchgear, UPS), structural elements, mechanical systems, and below-grade vault geometry
- Maintain RFI and coordination issue logs linked to model elements
Standards & Data Management
- Apply and enforce project BIM standards, naming conventions, and file management protocols
- Manage model submissions to the Common Data Environment (CDE)
- Working experience in Autodesk Forma
- Support as-built model updates during construction based on marked-up drawings and site records
Support
- Prepare presentation-quality drawings and visualizations for design reviews and owner submissions
- Assist engineers with quantity take-offs, equipment schedules, and drawing mark-ups
- Provide CAD support for site instruction sketches and field clarification drawings
Required
- Diploma or degree in Architectural Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline
- 5–8 years of BIM/CAD experience on building or infrastructure projects
- Advanced proficiency in Autodesk Revit
- Proficiency in AutoCAD
- Experience using Navisworks for clash detection and federated model coordination
- Demonstrated experience managing multidisciplinary BIM models across electrical, mechanical, structural, and architectural systems
- Experience working within BIM Execution Plan (BEP) frameworks and Common Data Environment (CDE) workflows
Assets
- Familiarity with electrical systems or mechanical building systems within FEC or critical infrastructure environments
- Experience on transportation, aviation, or other complex infrastructure projects
- Knowledge of ISO 19650 standards and information management frameworks
- Experience supporting projects involving critical facilities or high-reliability electrical infrastructure
