Role Overview:
We are seeking a Associate Wet Utilities Engineer to lead the planning, design, and delivery of wet utilities systems for major infrastructure and industrial developments, including roads, rail, ports, and container terminals. The role covers stormwater and foul drainage, pressurised water networks (potable, firefighting, irrigation), pumping stations, water storage tanks, and hydrology / flood studies. The successful candidate will manage multidisciplinary design teams, ensure technical excellence, and provide strategic input to master planning and project delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the end-to-end wet utilities design for major infrastructure and industrial projects, from concept through detailed design to IFC, including drainage, water supply, firefighting and irrigation systems, and associated pumping stations and reservoirs.
- Direct and review hydrology and hydraulic analyses to establish design flows, HFLs, catchment delineation, flood risk assessments, and flood protection measures, including the use of 1D/2D hydraulic models.
- Oversee hydraulic modelling and design of pressurised water networks and drainage networks (open channels, ditches, culverts, piped systems), including surge analysis, transient analysis, pump duty calculations, and system curve development.
- Lead preparation and approval of technical deliverables: design reports, drawings, hydraulic models, specifications, data sheets, bills of quantities, and tender documentation to meet project, client, and international code requirements.
- Coordinate closely with highways, rail, structures, electrical, mechanical, architectural, and environmental teams to ensure fully integrated wet utilities solutions and conflict-free layouts in complex corridors and industrial facilities.
- Provide technical leadership for drainage and water master planning, including system performance reviews, development assessments, operational scenario planning, and long-term capacity planning.
- Ensure compliance with relevant international and local standards and guidelines for water, wastewater, stormwater and flood management, and support interface with authorities for approvals.
- Support project managers with scope definition, fee estimates, schedules, risk registers and change management for wet utilities work packages; monitor progress, quality, and budget utilisation.
- Lead, mentor, and technically develop a team of wet utilities, drainage, water and hydrology engineers, including review of work, knowledge sharing, and support to training plans.
- Participate in client meetings, technical workshops, and design reviews; present technical solutions and defend design decisions in a clear and professional manner.
Experience and Qualifications:
- Experience: Typically, 14–15 years of experience in wet utilities engineering, with significant exposure to large-scale infrastructure or industrial projects (e.g. highways, rail, ports, container terminals, industrial cities), including leadership of multidisciplinary design teams
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Environmental Engineering, or Process Engineering.
- Master’s degree in water resources, Hydraulics, or a related field is preferred
Technical Skills:
- Strong expertise in design of stormwater and foul drainage, culverts, channels, pressurised water networks, firefighting and irrigation systems, pumping stations, reservoirs, and water storage tanks.
- Advanced proficiency in hydraulic and hydrologic modelling software such as Bentley SewerGEMS/StormCAD, WaterGEMS/WaterCAD, WaterHAMMER, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, and related tools; experience with surge/transient analysis is an advantage.
- Competence in Autodesk Civil 3D and AutoCAD for alignment, corridor and utilities modelling, and in GIS platforms for catchment delineation and flood hazard mapping.
- Thorough knowledge of relevant international codes and standards for water, wastewater, stormwater, and fire protection systems.
Soft Skills:
- Proven leadership and team management capabilities, including mentoring of junior and mid-level engineers.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound engineering judgments under schedule and cost constraints.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to coordinate effectively across cross-cultural, multidisciplinary teams and to interact confidently with clients, contractors and authorities.
- High level of self-management, initiative, and commercial awareness, with a focus on quality, efficiency, and risk management.
