Design Assurance Engineers are responsible for undertaking National Grid BP141 design assurance roles on a variety of National Grid projects. This role ensures that designs for a variety of installations, asset replacements, connection schemes and substation builds comply with National Grid technical specifications, engineering standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
The successful candidate will have suitable technical expertise and already undertake other relevant roles e.g. Contractor Design Approval Engineer, Principal Engineer, BP141 authorised in other disciplines and have experience of the UK Electricity Transmission and/or Distribution System and be willing to progress into formal Design Assurance Disciplines.

Responsibilities
- Supporting in ongoing Optioneering, FEED and Detailed Design projects to support the journey to becoming and authorised BP141 Design Assurance Engineer.
- Work closely with existing Design Assurance Engineers to gain an insight into the BP141 process and shadow during BP188 design reviews.
- Attain a suitable level of understanding of relevant Technical Specifications, Business Procedures etc to undertake the appropriate BP141 authorisation assessment.
- Support completion of design pack DCAAR once all technical, safety, and regulatory requirements are met.
- Engage in regular project design review meetings with a variety of stakeholders.
- Coordination and technical interface with other design assurance engineering disciplines.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including asset management, project delivery teams, and other engineering disciplines, to ensure design alignment with project objectives.
- Participate in design coordination meetings, workshops, and technical reviews with contractors and suppliers.
Essential:
- Proven experience in infrastructure design, design assurance, or technical approval within the Electricity Transmission and/or DNO sector.
- Experience of producing, reviewing and approving designs for National Grid and/or Distribution Network Operator (DNO) projects.
- Strong knowledge of electrical infrastructure, relevant to the specific assurance discipline.
- Over 5yrs experience of National Grid project design.
- Willingness to pursue BP141 authorisation assessment through engagement in FEED and Detailed Design / CDAE roles.
Desirable:
- HNC or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related discipline.
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards CEng accreditation
- Currently or previously nominated as SR137 Contractor Design Approval Engineer on National Grid projects.
Location:
Home based, with the option of working from Omnia offices (Stafford, Stockton Heath and Northallerton), as per project requirements. Must be willing to travel anywhere throughout the UK.
Working Hours:
Ideally full time but willing to consider part time staff positions.
