We are seeking an experienced Assistant Commercial Manager with a strong pre-contract background to support our ambitious growth plans and work closely with our key clients. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting the delivery of major capital projects and programmes across a diverse portfolio.
As part of an established team of industry professionals, the Assistant Commercial Manager will contribute to providing high-quality, accurate, and value-driven commercial services for large-scale, high-profile projects. The role offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative environment that values innovation, excellence, and continuous growth.
The position will involve managing and supporting all aspects of commercial activities throughout the project lifecycle, from initial project inception and business case development through to project completion. In addition, the role will support the project management team with group-level reporting, stakeholder engagement, and coordination to ensure successful project delivery and commercial outcomes.
Duties include (but not limited to):
- Deliver all aspects of commercial management from the early stages of a project.
- Drive performance standards and technical excellence through expert communication and effective use of the performance management process and EGIS Group technical practice networks.
- Prepare detailed cost forecasts and budget reports, analyzing variances and identifying trends to support financial decision-making.
- Collaborate with project managers and engineering teams to estimate project costs, including external sub consultancy services, and overheads.
- Prepare internal and external sub-consultancy agreements and collaborate with Project managers, legal team and commercial teams through to full execution.
- Conduct Egis due diligence before onboarding sub-consultants and verify that all necessary insurance policies are valid and in effect.
- Initiate and prepare change request forms, collaborating with Project Managers and the Design team to ensure all inputs are accurate and complete.
- Prepare Variation orders documents as per each client’s change management procedures.
- Support quality assurance and quality control reviews of team deliverables to maintain consistency and accuracy.
- Prepare variation orders for internal and external sub‑consultants following approval of project variations.
- Maintain and update a Master variation tracker for both ongoing and legacy projects.
- Contribute to group‑level reporting and presentation development to support management and stakeholder requirements.
- Demonstrate working knowledge of CRM tools, with a proactive and willing approach to learning new systems.
- Lead the development and maintenance of sub‑consultant variation trackers aligned with approved project variations.
- Ensure complete and auditable records of all commercial documentation by maintaining accurate filing strategy.
- Implement cost control measures and monitor project expenditures, addressing any issues that could lead to budget overruns.
- Review and endorse invoices and claims from external and internal suppliers, ensuring all charges are accurate and justified.
- Experience of undertaking cost/commercial management as part of integrated, multi-organization, collaborative teams is preferred.
- Good working knowledge of FIDIC contracts and familiarity with project management processes.
- Conduct post-project financial audits to assess cost management performance and identify lessons learned for future projects.
Key Qualifications:
- Education: A degree in accounting, finance, engineering, or a related field is required.
- Experience: 8 years of experience in cost and commercial management in the real estate sector.
- Skills: Strong analytical and negotiation skills. Proficiency in cost, commercial and finance management systems.
- Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to manage and lead teams effectively.
- Technical Proficiency: Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. Experience in Power BI, CRM tools, and Oracle systems, or a strong willingness to further develop system proficiency.
